Young swimmers slice through the water at gala

The gala times will also be used for the selection of the Zululand primary school teams

On Friday, swimmers from various schools took part in a Vryheid School Sprint Gala for primary schools, which was hosted by Vryheid Swimming Club. The schools were Lucas Meyer, Michaelis, Nardini and New Republic School. From U/8 to U/13 competed in freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke events. There were also two relay events, a medley relay and a freestyle relay. It was a nice, hot, sunny day and the swimmers were very excited. The gala times will also be used for the selection of the Zululand primary school teams that will be participating in Durban.
This gala could not have been possible without the support of the following sponsors:
• Vuka Timbers was the main sponsor of the day by sponsoring all the medals.
• Vryheid High School for the use of their pool and bathroom facilities.
• Michaelis for the use of their medal board.
• Lucas Meyer for their podium.
Thanks to:
• Vryheid Swimming Club and Daylene Theron for their time and effort in organising this gala.

• Cecile Lindeque for assisting with the entries, and Frans Lindeque as referee.

• All the officials and timekeepers who were willing to help with the gala. Without you, this gala would not be an option; and

• Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who supported their schools and swimmers. It is always greatly appreciated.
