Suspects charged after shooting in Queen Street

Eight suspects have appeared in court

Following the shooting that took place on Saturday (January 6) at the Queen Street taxi rank, it has been confirmed that eight suspects have been charged.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, eight suspects aged between 37 and 46 appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday (January 8). They face charges of robbery and attempted murder.

Netshiunda commented that, “On Saturday morning, a shooting took place at the Queen/Lyell Street taxi rank. It is alleged that after a robbery, security guards from two different companies opened fire on each other. No injuries have been reported. Five vehicles were damaged during the incident. 16 firearms have been confiscated for further investigation by police.”
