Park runners stay the course as year winds down

Park run fans are still going strong as the year runs out of time as could be seen by the enthusiasm on Saturday.

It was a surprisingly mild and dry December morning at Snips Bird Park for the Park Run experience at Rooi Point farm on Saturday, December 16.

The weekly get together attracted some “out-of-towners,” while the regulars received their early morning “fix” before the day’s Reconciliation Day celebrations.

“Every time I finish is a miracle,” said one Park run enthusiast as she powered her way to the finish line. Running or walking the 5km course every Park runner who took part in the event throughout the year felt the same.

The Park run saw significant changes this year, shifting from the Grey Goose Lodge to the Rooi Point Farm. Despite these changes, the runners persevered, gathering every Saturday morning, demonstrating the bonds and sense of “chosen family” the run has nurtured over the years.

Park run events are only possible with the help of volunteers. If jogging or walking is not your cup of tea, you might consider volunteering in the New Year.

To find out which role works best for you, contact the local Park run organises and try out a few different responsibilities to see which would fit you the best.
