More than 100 golfers compete to win R500K+ in prizes

Unfortunately, there were no winners of the three hole-in-one prizes which included a Cherry Tiggo valued at R285 000.

With more than half a million rands in prizes up for grabs, the CHAMPion Golf Day hosted on Saturday, November 18, drew 112 golfers to the Newcastle Golf Club.

Johan Pieters of The Champ Group said the annual golf day is the company’s way of spreading cheer and good will ahead of the festive season. Pieters described the success of this year’s event as, “just brilliant.”

Golfers were kept well hydrated under the scorching summer sun with eight sponsored waterholes. Every participant in the CHAMPion Golf Day received a generous goodie bag and a sponsored golf cap.

The coveted prize for first and second place is a weekend away at the Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club, where winners have the opportunity to play on the 18-hole Gary Player-designed golf course, while staying in a luxury hotel. The prize for third place is a night out at Blackrock, while the winner in the ladies category walks away with a painting by South Africa’s best-selling artist, Paul Munro, who is said to have pioneered a new style of painting using builders’ implements.

Prize winners will be announced in due course.

After the event golfers were treated to a luscious dinner at the Pines Wedding and Conference Village.

“The CHAMPion Golf Day was hailed as one of the most prestigious golf days on the Newcastle golfing calendar,” Pieters concluded. “We want to thank our sponsors and the participants for their contribution in ensuring the event was a great success.”

Future events to be hosted by the The Champ Group include the Chelmsford Challenge and Lekker Resies which takes place in February, the Newcastle Airshow which is scheduled to take place in June, and the Memel to Newcastle Walk/Run in August.
