Newcastle Municipality to ramp up service delivery with new ‘honey sucker’

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Thwala said that this truck will assist the municipality in unblocking and removing waste from septic tanks and other sewer-related complaints.

The Newcastle Municipality has unveiled a brand new ‘honey sucker’ truck which they hope will boost service delivery when it comes to cleaning up sewer spills.

Newcastle Deputy Mayor, Cllr Musa ‘Shukela’ Thwala, who is also the portfolio chairperson for Technical Services, said ‘the latest acquisition will accelerate service delivery.’

The municipal communications department said ‘the state-of-the-art truck is set to add value to an already existing fleet of honey sucker trucks.’

“It will also ease the burden of sewer spillages as it has a bigger space capacity and will ensure that more areas across Newcastle are covered in a shorter period.”

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Thwala said that this truck will assist the municipality in unblocking and removing waste from
septic tanks and other sewer-related complaints.

During the handover, Newcastle Mayor, Cllr Xolani Dube, said the new vehicle ‘is symbolic of an era of restoring the status of Newcastle, of being dubbed the best in delivering much-needed services to residents’.

Mayor Dube assured residents that the truck would be well maintained and not abused as it belonged to the community.

“This new honey sucker truck symbolises our commitment to making sure our residents receive the services they deserve. We have appealed to the staff to work diligently and to use the truck accordingly since it belongs to the taxpayers,” stated Dube.

With the slogan which reads ‘trust us as we propel to move Newcastle forward ‘ engraved on the side doors of the truck, the municipality is determined to usher in an era of speed and efficiency in meeting the needs of Newcastle residents.
