Is Dundee losing the self-declared war on potholes?

While many potholes have been filled in recent weeks, the rain has seen many roads become almost driveable.

The Endumeni Municipality’s recently declared war on potholes has reached a stalemate, say motorists, citing the proliferation of potholes that have appeared following the recent rains.

Mayor Siyabonga Ndlovu recently unveiled the ‘war’ and led a team of workmen who took to the streets, mainly in the CBD, to fill in a plethora of potholes.

However, motorists say that the potholes appeared to have launched a frontal offensive with many streets ‘now under attack’.

The road to Orange Grove Dairy – also an alternative route to Sibongile – has become especially rutted in recent weeks with one motorist lamenting that they ‘only repair this road when it is Dundee July time’.

Head Street, Biggar Street, McKenzie and most roads in Peacevale and in the industrial area have also been singled out for being in need of urgent repairs.

Cllr Naresh Gopie, chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee, MPAC, said the municipality is aware of the issues and steps are in place to fix such.
