Clean-up through rain or shine

They replaced the stickers on the rubbish bins with advertisements that are sponsored by local businesses

It was pouring down with rain on Sunday morning, but that didn’t deter the clean-up project organised by Helga Meyer and her Bible study group. Even though it wasn’t possible to accomplish everything that was listed due to the weather conditions, they still managed to ‘cover’ the area as they have planned.

The group initially started with the clean-up project in November last year when they started to scrape off the ‘abortion’ and other stickers adorning rubbish bins, electrical boxes and lamp poles. They replaced the stickers on the rubbish bins with advertisements that are sponsored by local businesses.

Helga says: “A very warm and heartfelt thank you to the community of Vryheid for all the donations and help on Sunday with our clean-up program. It is a privilege to be part of such beautiful and helpful people. Although we couldn’t paint the electrical boxes due to the weather, the whole CBD was cleaned and all posters removed.”

A special thanks to key people in the clean-up initiative:
Eckie and Ralph Meyer, Simon Dekker, Dennis Jones and team, Louis Latleiff and Dieter Tschirpig, Renier Roets, JJ Green, Jurie and Carol Green, Pieter Kriel and Lukas Pienaar, Karen Ferreira, Heinz Meyer and Elaine Rodway.

Thank you to the following donors:
Lady Jane, VHD Hardware, DIY, JMR Trailers, KwaZulu Gas and BB Fitment Centre, RAP Packaging, AGS Gemeente, Sign It, Sign Centre, Promo Direct, Vital Signs, Pick n Pay, Spar, Spur and Engen Junction.

Helga and her group call the initiative ‘Hope for Vryheid – Tidy Town Crusade’ and for more information you can contact her on 083 703 0915.
