Suspected syndicate targets Aviary Hill resident during armed home invasion

The Aviary Hill homeowner woke to find four armed suspects standing in his house at around 03:00 which led to several shots being fired.

Local law enforcement is on the lookout for four men believed to have been involved in an armed home invasion on Tarentaal Street, Aviary Hill, in the early hours of this morning (October 16).

Mornè Potgieter of Ithemba Security said the incident occurred around 03:00 when the homeowner was awakened by a suspicious noise.

When opened his bedroom door to investigate he saw four armed men standing in the passage,

A harrowing exchange of gunshots followed between the homeowner and the suspects before they attempted to flee the scene.

An Ithemba Security Tactical Team arrived on the scene first; and they too were met with the sounds of four gunshots being fired as the suspects made their getaway.

Shortly afterwards,  various security companies, including Optimus Protection Security and Magenta Security as well as the SAPS units, descended on the house to do sweep of the area as they searched for the wanted gunmen.

At this stage, the men are still at large.

Potgieter is urging residents to be more vigilant than ever, especially as the festive season approaches.

“Residents need to report any and all suspicious activity immediately and make sure their alarm and security systems are in working order,” he said
