Artists showcase their talent

“The main reason I decided to host such an event is because young people have forgotten about their talents and instead focus on things that do not bring them progress in life.''

Artists from the Mvunyane area came out in numbers to showcase their talents on Heritage Day.
An event called ‘Ubuhle Bamaciko’ was held at the Zimbomvu Hall, organised by Musa Mthethwa. He commented that, “The main reason I decided to host such an event is because young people have forgotten about their talents and instead focus on things that do not bring them progress in life. This is a reminder that they have talents they can put to good use.” Mthethwa further explained that he has always had a desire to host events of this nature, but never received the funding he needed. “After I realised no one wanted to help, I started a small business to fund my own initiatives. This is the very first big event I have funded on my own and it is my wish to have it annually. Hopefully, then, there will be people who will sponsor us.’’
13 male groups competed in the ‘Zulu dance for men’ item called ‘Ingoma’. Izinyokanyoka took first place and won a sheep. Eight groups of girls competed against one another in the ladies’ Zulu dance item called ‘Ukugida’. Here, the Ubuhle Bendalo girls won a cash prize of R1000 for being the best.
Also on the bill were the LMC boys, who entertained the crowd by singing Afro-pop songs.
