September 30: SPCA’s fitness fiesta at DHS
The SPCA will host a fitness fiesta at Dundee High School from 13:30 to encourage summer fitness. A team will put participants through a range of exercises, including a warm-up session, pilates with Lario, aerobics with Siboniso, functional with Mac, boxing with Siboniso, and danceology. The dress code is pink and there will be only 100 tickets available. For details, call Carmel on 082 921 5655.
October 4: Dundee Country Club annual general meeting
The annual general meeting of Dundee Country Club will be held in the boardroom at the clubhouse from 18:00 sharp.
October 10: Adult Care Centre annual general meeting
The Dundee Adult Care Centre will hold their AGM from 09:00 at the centre in Victoria Street. All are welcome.
October 21: Eventide Mews hosts Open Gardens Day
Eventide Mews, adjacent to the hospital, will host their Open Gardens Day from 09:30 to 16:00. Come and browse around these stunning spring gardens. The entry fee is R20. Tea and scones will be sold. Plant and equipment will also be on sale. For details, call 073 303 2187.
October 20/21/22: Talana ghost walk and Talana Live commemoration
The 124th anniversary of the Battle of Talana will take place across the lawns of what is now Talana Museum and up the slopes of Talana Hill. Meet at 16:45 at the cemetery in the Talana Museum grounds for the annual ghost walk up Talana Hill. After an introductory talk on the battle, participants will walk up Talana Hill in the footsteps of the British soldiers, with an explanation of the events at relevant points on the hillside.
Sherry, fruit juice and beef sandwiches will be offered as one sits and quietly listens to the stories of ‘it happened here’ and wait for the ghosts. Yes, they are on the battlefield and particularly on the anniversary. On Saturday, October 21, meet at Talana Museum at 06:45 / 07:00 for an anniversary tour of Battle of Talana sites, including Mpati Hill and other sites in the town. There will also be a chance to shop at the Creations Expo at Talana. Sunday, October 22, will see a tour of the Battle of Elandslaagte. For full details, contact Tourism Dundee on 072 183 5850.
