Seven Newcastle club drivers took the long trip to the Free State capital and were up against drivers representing 11 other clubs from around the country.

Despite being a relative small club, the Newcastle Oval Track Racers put in credible performances at the recent WOMZA (World of Motorsport South Africa) South African National Dirt Oval Track championships raced in Bloemfontein.

Seven Newcastle club drivers took the long trip to the Free State capital and were up against drivers representing 11 other clubs from around the country.

Theuns Corver narrowly missed out on SA honours after finishing overall fourth in the 2.1 modified division while Eugene Reyneke came home with an overall sixth place in the 2.1 modified saloon category.

“We did extremely well as a small club coming up against the best of the best in the country,” Reyneke told the Advertiser.

“The track conditions were superb and while the surface may have better suited the rear drive vehicles, posing a challenge to our front wheel drives, we cannot really complain as we did the best we could. Everyone was very welcoming and we had a fantastic time representing our Club and town at the championships.”

Zaakira Khan commented that this was her second time racing at the Bloemfontein Oval.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it, It was rough, tough but I couldn’t be more proud of representing my club at a national level.
“Our team that represented Newcastle has done tremendously well and although we missed the top positions each driver was very close to being in the top three.
We are very proud of each and everyone who represented Newcastle, the unity displayed amongst the team was incredible.
“We would also like to thank each and everyone for their unwavering support.”

The club thanks all racing fans and sponsors for their on-going support.

Remember the next race meeting in Newcastle is on the afternoon of September 30.
