Young Local lass flying high in entrepreneurship

S’negugu Hadebe has been recognised by the Mail and Guardian (among other young people) who are making a difference in their communities.

Women’s Month is here which calls for a celebration in which various women will be recognised for their contributions to society, the economy, and in the world.

S’negugu Hadebe (29), who was born and bred in Vryheid and is also the CEO of the Imbewu Farmers, has been recognised by the Mail and Guardian (among other young people) who are making a difference in their communities.
This year’s installation of the Mail and Guardian’s ‘200 young South Africans’ feature, includes over 15 categories that aim to recognise and reward young people who have created resilient, entrepreneurial and robust solutions. These young South Africans are said to also play a pivotal role in building a future in their local communities.

Hadebe attended the gala dinner, held in Johannesburg, and received her award in the Entrepreneurship category. Hadebe is a fourth generation farmer and supplies fresh produce to supermarkets, local restaurants, residents, street vendors, maize millers and B&Bs. Her business offers unique opportunities to other farmers through selling their produce through their market.

Hadebe is a busy young woman – she is an activist who runs literacy programmes in her community and is a World Literacy Foundation ambassador.
“I would tell my younger self that some people are going to throw dirt at you and some are going to throw flowers at you. Let it all be a garden that you grow from,” she told the Herald.
