Fun, laughter and sport at disability local games

''Locally, we have district champions in athletics and in the goal ball event played by the blind and deaf.”

It was all fun and games at the Cecil Emmet sports grounds last Wednesday when the AbaQulusi Disability Forum hosted various games for the local disabled people.

AbaQulusi Mayor, Cllr Mkhwanazi, gave a word of support to those who took part in the games.

Sibusiso Mbanjwa, chairperson of the AbaQulusi Disability Forum, said: ‘’This is the third time we have hosted such games but this one is on a bigger scale as many people came out to support and take part. The aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle and unearth new talent to compete in the upcoming district games. Locally, we have district champions in athletics and in the goal ball event played by the blind and deaf.”

Those who gathered in the hall played various games including chess, mlabalala and table tennis while others were outside competing in football, netball, athletics and wheel chair basketball.

Sibusiso commented that “that the day went very well and enjoyed exposure from many businesses who sponsored and made the day a success. ‘’I thank our sponsors and individuals who made donations and supporting our disability sector as well as the AbaQulusi Municipality.’’
