Angels Academy Newcastle’s Mpilonhle excels at Masakane Circuit Spelling Bee contest

Mpilonhle accurately spelt all of the words she was given; she did not misspell a single one.

Mpilonhle Malinga of Angels Academy Newcastle, supported by her dear coach and instructor, Jairos Manzou, rose to the top of the Masakane Circuit Spelling Bee competition after defeating all entrants in a closely contested spelling bee battle.

Malinga says she is now aiming to not only scoop the district and provincial legs of the competition but to also take part in, and, win the nationals, which will be held just before the turn of the 2023 academic year.

Mpilonhle accurately spelt all of the words she was given; she did not misspell a single one.

Her coach, Mr. Manzou, said: “This is the first Mpilonhle and Angels Academy, Newcastle, have officially competed in this nerve-wracking competition, but I am confident that she will do well for her school and move up in terms of her knowledge and proficiency of the English language from where she was before she entered.”

“The Mpilonhle, before and after these competitions, will be two different people. Thanks to the Department of Education, for organising and promoting this academic sport in our schools”, Mr. Manzou said.
