Beware of dog theft for breeding purposes

The Estcourt Animal Shelter would like to offer a word of warning to 'power dog breed' owners

The Estcourt Animal Shelter would like to offer a word of warning to ‘power dog breed’ owners.

“In the last couple of weeks, it has come to our attention that two German Shepherds (and possibly more that haven’t been reported) have gone missing in the Estcourt area. Unfortunately, neither of these dogs were sterilised and could possibly have been targeted for potential breeding,” explained shelter chairperson Leigh Fortmann.

Please be vigilant and keep your pets safe… And as Fortmann says, remember that sterilisation is of utmost importance.

Another German Shepherd that is missing.

“This enables you to keep your dogs from wandering and often becoming pregnant with unwanted litters of pups from unsuitable mates, or getting injured while roaming the streets,” she added.

The families that have reported their dogs missing are devastated and would appreciate any information that would enable them to get their much-loved pets back home.

If you have seen dogs resembling the two that are pictured, please contact Leigh from the Estcourt Animal Shelter on 083 604 8670 or Nelson Mabaso on 060 988 9495.
