Ward 12 residents claim to be tired of empty promises from leaders

''We believe that if a project starts it means there was a budget for it, so why can’t they finish it now?''

Residents of ward 12 in Metzelfontain (iNyanyeni) have outlined issues they are facing as a community.

Mlungisi Buthelezi who described their community is a ‘mess’ is one of the concerned residents of ward 12 who mentioned that they have never had water and electricity in their place of stay. He says ‘’I have lived in this area for almost my whole life, I have never seen water coming out of the taps, well we do not have taps. Water trucks would come now and again, people fetch water from dams and there are boreholes, but that is not even. We do not have electricity and our roads are not accessible.’’

He continues to state that different leaders of political parties would come and promise them services but nothing ever happens. ‘’This time around we had high hopes that we will see water coming out of taps in each and every household. Earlier this year there were by-elections, Mayor of the Zululand District Thulasizwe Buthelezi promised to deliver those services we needed. We saw and believed that the project was starting when we saw people (contractor) digging and installing a pipe at the Vamba station, we had hope now that the project is not progressing, we believe that if a project starts it means there was a budget for it, so why can’t they finish it now?

Also we do not have proper usable roads, school children from the areas of Vamba, Ntengeni and kwabhobho cannot use transportation that the Department of Education has allocated for them to use because vehicles cannot use the roads in that manner, so now they walk to school even though they have transport that is not fair. There are no clinics in this area, ambulances cannot access our roads, and it is really bad.

The Vryheid Herald contacted the office of the mayor from the Zululand District, Zanele Mthethwa who is the spokesperson in the Zululand District Municipality said they received our enquiry and the municipality is investigating the matter.
