Newcastle Mayor reaffirms commitment to continue delivering services to the community

Despite coming under fire for the poor state of Newcastle roads and other service delivery challenges, exacerbated by financial constraints, Mayor Xolani Dube is adamant ‘that the dark clouds are lifting’.

He insisted in a statement that ‘the municipality has made insurmountable progress in making sure that the Newcastle community receives the much-needed support and services that they deserve.’

“We have gone back to the drawing board to devise strategies to ensure that service delivery is improved despite the financial challenges they were facing and I am pleased with the progress made with some of the projects we have undertaken.”

He said one successful project was the recently completed access road in Madadeni that will assist commuters, especially children, to gain better access to their school as the roads will serve as a connection between Ikhwezi and section 1.

“Further, the long-troubled Enyokeni main road has been repaved. We have heard the cries of the community of Ward 26, and as a listening and caring government of the people, done everything in our power to solve the dire road situation in Enyokeni.”

He added that ‘as a member of the coalition government I believe in the development of all communities and making sure that they restored their people’s dignity by providing decent housing and giving them full ownership of their homes.’

“This month 600 title deeds will be handed over to communities in Osizweni, Madadeni, Charlestown, and in other areas. We have also commissioned another new road and storm water drainage project in Osizweni.”

“I urge Newcastle to continue trusting us as strive to improve their living conditions. We are pleased with the results of our hard work in overcoming challenges to accelerate service delivery to our communities and assure our citizens of our on-going commitment to continue doing so,” Mayor Dube concluded.
