Madadeni family needs help after losing everything in devastating house fire

A Madadeni family has found an innovative way of rebuilding their lives after losing everything in a devastating house fire on May 30.

The Mdakane family narrowly escaped the raging flames, defying the odds and have vowed to rebuild their lives.

The terrifying event, which occurred at 3am during load shedding, was a perilous ordeal for the four children, aged 10 to 17, and one adult.

When one of the youngsters was awakened by an alarming crackling sound, he discovered the dining room engulfed in flames.

Jermain Mkandla, speaking on behalf of the family, said the youngster quickly raised the alarm, shouting the rest of the family to get up.

However, they were unaware that the fire had already spread through the entire ceiling, obstructing both of the main exits – the dining room and kitchen doors.

With their escape routes closed off by the raging blaze, the family anxiously pleaded for help from within their home, hoping that someone in their property’s back rooms might hear them.

“As their pleas reached the ears of a family member in the backyard room, fate intervened,” he said.

In response to the distress calls, one of those who responded to the calls for help managed to break through the burglar bars on one of the bedroom windows, allowing for a narrow route to safety.

As thick smoke billowed around them and the flames flared, each family member crawled through the broken window, injuring themselves in the process.

The adult was hospitalized after blazing ceiling debris came down on her.

One of the youngsters, the last to leave the building, suffered from serious smoke inhalation and had to be admitted to the intensive care unit.”

Fire fighters and other emergency personnel worked frantically to extinguish the intense flames that threatened to burn down the entire property.

Mkandla confirmed that all five people survived the horrific incident and are believed to be in good health.

The family is now working hard to rebuild their house and livelihood, and rather than simply asking for donations, they have decided to raise the funds through a newly formed company called Healed From The Ashes TM.

According to Mkandla of Healed from the Ashes, the company was literally born out of the ashes, hence the name.

“In summary, the business will provide digital marketing services primarily on social media on behalf of individuals or organisations. The agency’s focus will be on the creation of viral content intended to maximize brand exposure and awareness,” he explained.
