Shack fire leaves nine people homeless

The cause of the fire is unknown

Nine people have been left homeless after a fire gutted a tin shack in End Lane, Mkhamba Gardens, yesterday (June 20).

Speaking to one of the residents, he lamented that he is in a state of shock after losing everything in the blaze.

Clothes that were damaged.

”I was at work when I received the call that my home was on fire. When I got there, everything was destroyed,” said the resident. “I am left with the clothes I was wearing. Everyone was at work when the fire started, so we don’t know what caused it.”

He reached out to Ladysmith Hospice, who helped him with some clothing. Hospice manager Jennifer Rehman said they ’empathise’ with the people who lost their home and are willing to assist.
