R56-million road project opened in Loskop

These projects have created jobs for local unemployed youth and also benefited local emerging contractors

As part of connecting rural towns, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Sipho Hlomuka officially opened the D1252 located in Loskop (under Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality) on May 30.

The road was upgraded from gravel to blacktop and was constructed at a value of R56 million. The project serves as a link to the N3, which is strategic in connecting eThekwini and Johannesburg. The road also provides a link to the P10, which provides access to the Drakensberg and other tourism routes.

In addition to the D1252, MEC Hlomuka also announced the maintenance of local roads at an investment value of R14 million.
These projects have created jobs for local unemployed youth and also benefited local emerging contractors.

Commenting after addressing thousands of community members in Nkomakazini (Ward 4), Hlomuka said, “This road is part of the commitment to improve and develop towns. This road is important in restoring the dignity of the people and local businesses. The investment of R56 million has restored hope to the people of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality. Young people will continue to be prioritised in our infrastructure projects. We are determined to create jobs and end poverty.”
