Pothole fixers are doing it for themselves

"This road has caused many accidents and the recent one was the most horrific, where a vehicle ended up hitting someone's house"

To combat an assortment of potholes ranging in size, shape and depth, some motorists (including taxi drivers) took a proactive stance and used their own resources to repair these gaping holes in Sibongile location.
In Nyembe Street, a group of youngsters made a decision to patch up a portion of the road.

They had no financial assistance from the municipality and used their own money to patch up the ‘deep holes’ in the street. According to motorists in the area, the potholes have been reported numerous times to the municipality.

“Endumeni Municipality always looks for quick fixes when it comes to service delivery, especially when it comes to patching up potholes,” said a motorist. He added that the municipality just covers potholes with stones that get washed away during heavy rains.

“This road has caused many accidents and the recent one was the most horrific, where a vehicle ended up hitting someone’s house. That is why we decided to take it upon ourselves to cover them up,” said taxi driver Giva Khumalo.
