Sarel Cilliers notches up good weekend results

After a long and arduous journey, the teams arrived safely in Empangeni and were ready for their matches.

On Saturday, Sarel Cilliers buses left at 2 in the morning to be on time for the sporting fixtures at Empangeni High School.
The angling team was also up bright and early to leave at sunrise for their excursion, so it was an early start for many of the Sarel Cilliers learners.
After a long and arduous journey, the teams arrived safely in Empangeni and were ready for their matches. The netball teams played against strong opposition and the scores were as follows: U/14 lost 6-16, U/15 lost 15-18, U/16 lost 10-16, second team won 12-9, and first team lost 12-28. The U/16 girls’ hockey team drew 1-1, the second girls’ hockey team drew 2-2 and the first team hockey girls lost 0-2. The rugby teams played some very challenging matches and fared well: U/14 won 15-5, U/15 lost 15-16, U/16 won 33- 5 and the first team drew 24-24. The hockey boys played their matches on very difficult terrain but still managed to emerge victorious, with the second team winning 1-0 and the first team matching the win to defeat Empangeni 1-0. Due to an accident on the road, the teams arrived back late but safely on Saturday evening.
Sarel Cilliers is grateful to all the coaches and players for their dedication.
The first team soccer boys played their first match against ML Sultan over the weekend and won with a convincing 5-2 score-line. The juniors were also victorious with a 3-0 win.
This auspicious start bodes well for a very exciting soccer season.
The angling team fished at Fort Mistake, with many new anglers joining the group. These fishing expeditions are proving to be extremely popular, with many learners improving and learning new skills. The fish were not biting, but a fun time was had by all. It is exciting to see that many girls are now joining the angling team and their casting is improving with each excursion.
Exams will begin in early June and we would like to encourage all parents to ensure that their charges begin with their revision programmes early.
