Principals initially went to the Department of Education offices on Monday (April 17) to ask why their complaints had not yet been attended to.

The district director was present today to address them.

Department of Education head of communication Muzi Mahlambi issued a statement saying they experienced challenges last week due to non-delivery of food items to some of the schools. “As a result, MEC for Education Ms Mbali Frazer directed the head of department and top management to swiftly investigate the root cause and come up with a possible solution. During the investigation, it transpired that logistical challenges were encountered by the appointed service provider. However, the department confirmed that the food items have been delivered to 90% of the 5444 schools; although there are reports of shortages at some of the schools, like in Ugu District, and these are being attended to,” said Mahlambi.
