uThukela offices on fire

Police and Public Safety responded to the scene, along with fire-fighters

A fire broke out inside the uThukela offices this afternoon (March 31).

Alfred Duma Local Municipality fire-fighters were quick to contain the blaze and extinguish the flames.

According to uThukela Municipal Manager Mr MB Mnguni, he was addressing staff members when they saw smoke coming out of the building and people running outside. He added that a lot of important documents were destroyed in the fire. 

The documents that were burned.

One room was damaged and a window burst, but no injuries were reported.

The municipal manager took the decision to close the offices and remove all staff from the premises until it is safe to go back.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
