Clean-up campaign sweeps through CBD

Municipal management and political leadership led the clean-up

An intensive clean-up campaign was held in the CBD on March 9. Municipal management, political leadership and field workers joined hands for the campaign.

Areas that were covered included Alexandra and Phillip streets, where bins were erected; Harding and Connor streets, where the focus was on illegal dumping and grass cutting; while clean-ups were done in Victoria Street, Ntabamhlophe Road and the taxi rank in Alexandra Street.

The initiative was concluded by 11:00, when the team met in front of the municipal building. There, the mayor Mduduzi Myeza thanked them for their ‘dedication, hard work and commitment’.

“A person is judged by the image of his own town. You should keep this momentum throughout and never be discouraged,” he said.

The mayor then went out to other areas such as the sites where the newly-erected ‘Welcome’ signs have been erected. He also had a look at the sinkhole in Sagittarius Road, Colita.
