Charlestown SAPS stop copper thieves dead in their tracks

A Quantum believed to be transporting the stolen goods was tracked down, and the suspects were arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

Two men have been detained by SAPS after being caught transporting 26 rolls of stolen copper cable on the N11 between Volksrust and Newcastle.

Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS corporate communications department said Charlestown SAPS received a tip-off about the suspect’s illegal activities.

A Quantum believed to be transporting the stolen goods was tracked down, and the suspects were arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

Another suspect was later arrested for copper theft at P36 Henley Farm in Normandien.

Police officials were conducting patrol duties in the area when they noticed a suspect carrying a suspicious bag with him.

Upon further inspection, police discovered the bag contained copper cables believed to have been stolen. The suspect was arrested and charged for being in possession of stolen goods.

All three suspects have since appeared in court, and police investigations will continue,” she confirmed.
