One arrested for illegal firearm possession; two arrests for cable theft

A man was taken into custody after an R5 assault rifle and ammunition were found in his vehicle.
The Umzinyathi SAPS Task Team were manning a roadblock on the Dundee/Nquthu road over the weekend when they stopped a vehicle and discovered the illegal firearm and ammunition.
A man was arrested and detained at Dundee police station.
In another incident, two suspects – believed to be part of a syndicate – were arrested on Thursday after being found in possession of a large number of stolen copper cables, allegedly stolen from the Malonjeni railway station area.
The two suspects were detained at Dundee police station and appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
They were remanded into custody and will appear next week for a formal bail application.
