Police visit school to search for illegal items

The officers also spread awareness about bullying and substance abuse

The Ladysmith Visible Policing Unit conducted a random search at a secondary school yesterday (March 1).

Police officers searched the learners’ bags to ensure that they were not in possession of any illegal items such as substances (drugs) or weapons.

The team also used the opportunity to conduct an awareness campaign during which they focused on a number of topics. They discussed the negative effects of having a criminal record; dangerous weapons; the ill-effects of substance abuse; and bullying.

The learners thoroughly enjoyed the awareness programme and are now more likely to stay away from criminal activities that could land them up in trouble.
