Firearms seized, two arrested in Loskop
Two firearms and ammunition were seized during an intelligence-driven operation
Two men from Loskop appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday (February 20), facing charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The men, aged 28 and 36, were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation conducted in the Mqedandaba area on February 19.
Acting on information, members of the Uthukela Zone One Task Team traced and located a 28-year-old man and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol and two rounds of ammunition.
“The team followed up on further information in the same area and traced a 36-year-old suspect. He was caught unaware when officers pounced on his residence. In his possession, officers found a revolver with two rounds of ammunition in it,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.
Both suspects have been profiled and the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of other crimes.
