Amajuba District Top Achievers honoured at esteemed Excellence Awards Ceremony

The awards are intended to recognize and honor the significant contributions made by educators, parents, and students to Amajuba District's academic success story:

The much-anticipated Amajuba District Mayoral Grade 12 awards, to honour the top achievers, were held last Tuesday (February 14) at Blackrock Casino.

Nondu Mhlungu, Amajuba District municipality’s communications manager, the annual excellence awards were hosted by Amajuba Mayor, Cllr. uMntwana Ndabuko Zulu, who was accompanied by Councillors.

Those receiving awards were joined by their parents, councillors, MPL S.S Zondo, Dr. A. Mokoena and other senior officials from the Department of Education, and municipal officials.

Mayor Zulu said he “is very humbled to stand in front of you today in this historic occasion which aims at acknowledging the best performers in the District. Congratulations, class of 2022; you have done us all proud! You have made history and have challenged the class of 2023.”

The Mayor assured the class of 2022 that the Amajuba District values and recognises the efforts, dedication, support, and hard work of guardians, parents, teachers, and Department of Education officials at all levels.

“Your commitment, enthusiasm, and insight are truly inspiring. I wish you many years of great achievements! “he continued

There were also heartfelt message of congratulations to the District’s top performers.

“Excellent work! You’re destined for greatness. This recognition is well-deserved and will allow you to spread your wings. Remember that this is not the end of your academic journey; rather, it is the start of a new one.”

The recipients and their parents walked the red carpet to receive their merited awards and prizes from the various categories, which included the school with the most bachelors passes, the top 10 candidates, the most Improved school, the top schools per quintile, and the Mayoral award.

The following awards were given out:

  • Top 10 candidates: Sinakhokonke Siyaya, Bhavan Rajesh, Mashaba Nokwethemba, Amahle Mathe, Ilah Fourie, Simphiwe Mabuza, Mpiliso Zwane, Bokamoso Habedi, Andile Mandlenkosi Manzini and Sinethemba Mtshali.
  • Top 10 Schools with most Bachelor Passes: Phendukani High School, St Lewis Bertrands Secondary, Siyamukela High School, Ziphakamiseni High School, Umzilikazi Secondary School, Newcastle High School, Dedangifunde High School, Ferrum High School, Indonsa Secondary School and Zama Secondary School.
  • Most Improved School: Inzululwazi High School.
  • Top performing schools per quintile: Sinqobile Combined School, Umzilikazi Secondary School, Muzokhanyayo Secondary School, Phendukani High School and Newcastle High School.
  • Mayoral Award: Ngcaka Combined School
