Al-Imdaad to the rescue in Syria

The foundation has been providing emergency relief supplies to thousands of displaced people

Estcourt’s Al-Imdaad Foundation has teams on the ground, delivering emergency relief supplies after the devastating earthquake in South Turkey and Northern Syria on February 6.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake took place in the early hours of the morning, when many were still indoors. As a result, the death toll has risen into the 10s of thousands. Countless buildings have been destroyed and whole areas in major cities have become rubble. Huge numbers have lost their homes, belongings and sources of livelihood.

These are communities that have lived for over a decade in the shadow of the Syrian war and are now facing yet another crisis.

Al-Imdaad’s Qari Ziyaad Patel, who is part of the relief mission, explains that, “The Al-Imdaad Foundation works very actively in the region that has been affected. It is (highly) populated with Syrian refugees, and to see this natural disaster strike that part of the globe has made a bad situation much worse.”

Al-Imdaad’s response is ongoing and varied. Teams have been delivering cooked meals, hygiene kits, food supplies and other essentials in the affected areas of Turkey. A military plane is also being dispatched to Turkey by Al-Imdaad’s office in Jordan, with blankets, tents, sleeping bags and other additional supplies.

In Northern Syria, essential supplies that include blankets, mattresses, hot meals and ready-to-eat snacks have been delivered. Fuel has also been supplied for emergency response vehicles, and equipment used in recovery efforts.

The Al-Imdaad Foundation is committed to doing all it can to address the needs of affected communities going forward. The public may support these efforts by donating online at alimdaad.com
