Spreading crime awareness at Vryheid schools

''Should you want us to visit your school, don’t hesitate to contact W/O Ramoikatso (communication officer) at Vryheid SAPS on 071 809 3831 or Sergeant NNF Zwane (school safety co-ordinator) on 076 641 9674.’’

The Social Crime Prevention Unit, departments of Social Development and Health, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Induna Masondo (from Othaka) and LifeLine volunteers visited Filidi High School on Tuesday and Thursday to conduct a crime awareness campaign.
Tuesday was a session for the Grade 8 learners, and Thursday was scheduled for the Grade 9s.

Sister Dube from the Department of Health educated the scholars about teenage pregnancy and the different methods that prevent pregnancy. Mrs Ntuli, who is a social worker, engaged the learners about drug abuse and the dangers thereof.
Miss Khumalo from LifeLine Social Workers educated the children about child abuse and further elaborated on the different types of abuse such as psychological, physical and emotional.
Warrant Officer Ramoikatso urged the learners not to involve themselves in any kind of criminal activity, as this could lead to arrest and their futures being destroyed.

The children were so impressed by what they heard that they immediately promised not to get involved in anything negative, but rather focus on their studies.
‘’We will be conducting these projects in any Vryheid schools that approach us. Working together with these schools will make a difference.
