Karate kids get ready to punch and kick in Japan

Junior karatekas to compete in the International Taekwon-Do Federation (IFT) World Kyokushin Tournament in Tokyo, Japan.

Two local junior karatekas, Cebolenkosi Zondi and Adoriam Nkhoma, have been selected to compete in the International Taekwon-Do Federation (IFT) World Kyokushin Tournament in Tokyo, Japan. These two young karatekas (karate students) were selected to take part in the competition following their outstanding performance in the provincial and national selections.
They will both be flying to Japan on April 23, where they will compete with the ‘best of the best’ in the world.
Mayor Petros Ngubane has sponsored these junior karate kids with R20,000 for their trip. “We are a municipality that believes in nurturing young talent. We wish them well and I know they will do us proud as the district,” said Mayor Ngubane.
The chairperson of Traditional Leaders in the District, iNkosi Mazibuko, said that as a district, they always encourage the youth to be active in sports because they (the youth) are less likely to be trapped in drugs and crime.
“We wish them all the best and we are fully behind them,” said iNkosi Mazibuko.
