Man nabbed with unlicensed firearm in Rensburg

After receiving “valuable information”, police pounced on the suspect

Acting on information, Estcourt SAPS Station Commander Colonel Nkosinathi Radebe handpicked a team to intercept a person who was believed to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Members from the Uthukela District Zone 1 Task Team, the Estcourt Visible Policing Unit as well as Estcourt detectives travelled to Rensburgdrift on February 7 where they were traced and located their suspect.

A 32-year-old man was searched and found in possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition.

“He was unable to produce a licence for the firearm as well as ammunition in his possession. He was immediately arrested,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

The man was charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition; he appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court today.
