Town mourns the sudden loss of local stalwart Reiner Stucky

Reiner will be remembered as a man who was able to touch so many people's lives and who was always striving to empower others by serving as a true role model.

Reiner Stucky (63) will be remembered as a witty, friendly, and God-fearing man who always put others’ needs ahead of his own.

Reiner’s family and friends have gathered to pay their respects after he died this morning after a lengthy and brave battle with cancer.

“Reiner was an incredibly strong, kind, and generous person. He was diagnosed with cancer in July of last year and was being treated at the Zuid Afrikaans Hospital in Pretoria,” said his son, Leo Stucky.

He continued: “He died on January 31, 2023, at 06:15, with his wife, Jane, by his side. He has left an indelible imprint on our company, our hearts, and minds because he was a vital part of our operation with a keen eye for the finer details. He had the best laugh and quirky characteristics. Although our hearts are broken, we look forward to continuing to build the legacy that he and the entire Stucky family have so passionately created, and in this way we will best honor him. He was kind, but he was a force to be reckoned with.”

“Everyone knew him for his love of cheesecake; wherever he went in the world, he had to try their baked cheesecake, and he always shared his love of cheesecake on Facebook – but it had to be the baked kind. In general, he had a sweet tooth and would not hesitate to order two or three desserts at dinner.”
