Newcastle Mayor hands over new bakkies to Technical Services Department

Mayor Dube emphasized that the new bakkies will be used to help Newcastle regain its reputation for improving water, sanitation, roads, and infrastructure.

Newcastle Municipality began the new year on a high note when new bakkies were handed over to the technical services department on January 26.

Newcastle Mayor, Cllr DX Dube, Deputy Mayor, Cllr S Thwala (who is also the portfolio chairperson for technical services), Speaker TM Zulu and municipal manager, Z Mcineka, officiated at the handing over ceremony,

“These newly advanced bakkies will add value to the municipal fleet by allowing the echnical services team to do their job more effectively and conveniently,” the municipality said in a media statement.

Mayor Dube emphasized that the vehicle will be used to help Newcastle’ regain its reputation for improving water, sanitation, roads, and infrastructure. ‘

“As a caring municipality, we assure that we will continue with being productively efficient in service delivery as well as meeting the needs of the community.”

He added that there should be ‘coordination between the municipality and Newcastle as a whole to keep the municipality’s vision alive.’

“The municipal technical team was overjoyed and eagerly accepted the new bakkies, promising to use them to bring about change in the community we serve,” the statement concluded.
