“To get somewhere, you have to start somewhere”.

Those are the words of Sinqobile Qwabe, a 29-year-old fashion designer from the impoverished village of Wakkerstroom in Mpumalanga.

Growing up with eight siblings and cousins under the care of her grandparents, this determined woman, a graduate of Amajuba Tvet College, knew she wanted to be a fashion designer from a young age.

Sinqobile was 11 years old when she began designing and sewing clothes by hand, inspired by her grandmother.

Sinqobile’s talent, like that of her role model, David Tlale, keeps her very busy.

“I always have some new designs or clothing suitable for each occasion, so I am rarely not working.”

Her strengths include working hard and independently, as well as following fashion trends, being friendly, and having a pleasant demeanor.
