The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ‘lit the world this Christmas’

The church provided resources to allow these citizens to continue practicing their skills in order to sell their items and improve their socioeconomic status.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently created the Light the World programme.

D.S Zulu of the Church said the programme was an invitation to turn the holiday season into a season of service.

“It is a global movement that seeks to touch hearts and change lives by doing what Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and infirm, and showing kindness to all,” he said.

On December 16, members of the Church from the Newcastle district gathered in large numbers in Madadeni for the light the world programme.

The venue was a simply informal dwelling, where local senior citizens come together to socialize and use their talents to knit dresses, blankets, and even stretch tents.

Zulu added that while these seniors lack the resources to carry out their tasks effectively they make do with their hands, knowledge and teamwork.”

The senior citizens were pleased that these members came to serve them as promised with one proclaiming that ‘you are the disciples of Jesus Christ because you keep to your word’.

The church provided resources to allow these citizens to continue practicing their skills in order to sell their items and improve their socioeconomic status.

The day began with a hymn and prayer, followed by a play performed and an exercise session to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The day concluded with citizens displaying their handcrafted work, which included blankets, bags, and knitted shoes. All of these items are sold at reasonable prices.

These senior citizens invite anyone to help them light the world by donating fabric, money, or food. Mr. Moloi can be reached at 073 000 1137.
