Animal shelter grateful for community support

The Estcourt Animal Shelter is a community-driven organisation that relies on the generosity of donors

Submitted by Leigh Fortmann (EAS chairperson)

The Estcourt Animal Shelter (EAS) would like to thank all those who helped in any way, big or small, to keep our shelter’s doors open for yet another year.

The public response to our food supply has been remarkable and our furry rescues are very blessed to have never been without an abundant supply of nutritious food.

Our maintenance is an ongoing project and something that has been delayed due to funds. However, this year has allowed us the means to get started, firstly with our cattery, thanks to HMS Hardware initiating a golf day in aid of EAS; and secondly, Blurock Quarry stepped in with their team to speed things along.

The results are astounding; please drop in to meet our many cats and dogs and see the work being done to make their stay with us as comfortable as possible.

To all the ladies who have tirelessly knitted and sewn for our dogs and cats, it has been gratefully accepted. We have had various stalls that have promoted our organisation at flea markets from Rosetta to Dragon Peaks, informing the public of what we do, and the response has been pleasing. There is an enormous need for education and assistance regarding pet care and we would like to have more focus placed on this area in the New Year.

So far, Thobeka School (on the way to Weenen) and Elevate Christian Academy (in Estcourt) allowed us to make presentations to their pupils, which were wonderfully received.

The donations we have been given during 2022 are too plentiful to mention and to start listing names would inevitably lead to someone being left out, but you know who you are – our guardian angels – and we thank you.

To the Estcourt Veterinary Clinic, your advice and medical support has been unwavering, without which we couldn’t help the many animals that come through our gates on a weekly basis. So, to you all, a great big thank you! From us all at Estcourt Animal Shelter, a wish that you (our EAS community and your furry family) have a blessed and peaceful New Year.
