St Dominics Newcastle awards its Top Grade 12 achievers

Congratulations to all the Top Achievers of 2022. They are as follows:

The following learners have obtained distinctions in IsiZulu:

  • Olwethu Dlamini
  • Sibongasonke Ncube
  • Nlanzeko Dladla.

Academic Awards:

  • Bobby Ding received a distinction in Life Orientation.
  • Sinakhokonke Dube received a distinction in English.
  • Tandana Maema received a distinction in Business Studies.
  • Arone Bester receives the Hurrichand Trophy for Best Practical Art Student.
  • Zanokuhle Ngubane received a distinction in MathematicalLiteracy. She also received the SDN Award for Mathematical Literacy and the Jenny Hobbs Trophy for Speech and Drama Practical.
  • Olwethu Ximba received an honour in IsiZulu. She is also awarded the SDN Trophy for IsiZulu. Olwethu meets the requirements for an Academic Scroll.
  • Asma Karrim received a subject distinction in both English and Life Science. She is also eligible for an Academic scroll.
  • Juandre Beukes has honours in English, Life Science, and Afrikaans. Juandre meets the requirements for an Academic Scroll.
  • Emily Honiball received honours in English, Life Orientation, and Life Science. She is also eligible for an Academic Scroll.
  • Cusche Kok has distinctions in Afrikaans, English, Life Orientation, and Life Science. Cusche is eligible for Half-Colours in Academics.
  • Caitlyn Skinner has received distinctions in Dramatic Arts, English, and Life Orientation. She also receives the Catherine Chantry Trophy for Speech and Drama Theory. Caitlyn is also eligible for Half-Colours in Academics.
  • Aisha Jadwat has received distinctions in English, History, Life Orientation, and Mathematical Literacy. Aisha also receives the Street Wire Trophy for History and the Mike Marillier Trophy for the Most Devoted English Learner. Aisha is also eligible for Half-Colours in Academics.
  • Shazana Badloo has distinctions in Afrikaans, English, Life Sciences, Mathematics, and Physical Science. She also receives the Dr Norden Trophy for Life Sciences and the Trophy for Physical Science. Shazana received Full Colours in Academics.

The Top Three in Grade 12 are:

  • Lonathemba Mazibuko came in third place with an overall aggregate of 80% and distinctions in English, Life Orientation, Life Science, and IsiZulu. She is also the recipient of the NU Ads Trophy for Bilingualism. Lonathemba is also academically qualified for Full Colours.
  • Suhaan Singh came in second place with an aggregate of 84,74% and distinctions in Afrikaans, Business Studies, English, Life Orientation, and Mathematics. Suhaan is also the recipient of the IEMAS award for Business Studies and the Linda Black Trophy for English. Suhaan has received Full Colours in Academics.
  • Okuhlekonke Mncwabe took first place with an aggregate of 85,15% and distinctions in Accountancy, Afrikaans, English, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, and Mathematics. She receives Full Colours in Academics.
  • Okuhle also receives the following trophies: The John Clark Trophy for Life Orientation, The Dameskorp Trophy for Afrikaans, The Carol Roderick Trophy for Accountancy and Grandpa Gokul Trophy for Mathematics.

  • Olwethu Ximba receives the Kit Bosiers Cup for Diplomacy.
  • Juandre Beukes receives the Noleen Hanton Courtesy Trophy for Girls; Tandana Maema receives the Courtesy Cup for Boys.
  • Aisha Jadwat receives the Meryl Jane Stanton Award for Perseverance.
  • Olwethu Ximba receives the Stroebel Trophy for Service Above Self.
  • Caitlyn Skinner and Okuhlekonke Mncwabe receive the Retha Allison Trophy for Language Lover.
  • Zanokuhle Ngubane receives the Grade 12 Progress Prize.
  • Tanita Fernandes receives the Pensioner of the Year Award.
  • Lonathemba Mazibuko receives the Trevor Douthwaite Trophy for Best All-Round Student of the Year.

Culture Awards
Thank you, among others, Aisha Jadwat, Nomachule Duma, Shazana Badloo, Lonathemba Mazibuko, Zanokuhle Ngubane, Caitlin Skinner, and Zekhethelo Miya. Sbongaskonke and Simphiwe Thango deserve special recognition for their outstanding work with the Find Your Voice group.

Curro Arts Superheroes festival Kryptonite awards

This award is only given when a learner achieves between 95 and 100%, which is very rare.

  • The matriculants in the Marimba Band – well done on your Kryptonite award.
  • Suhaan Singh achieved a Kryptonite award for Prepared reading.
  • Olwethu Ximba won a Kryptonite award for an IsiZulu monologue she wrote and performed herself. She brought pride and joy to her school, family, herself, and the Culture department by being invited to the prestigious KrypCon, Krytonite Concert, which was held in Cape Town this July.
