uThukela workers set to strike tomorrow

Security has been beefed up to contain the situation, should the need arise

uThukela District Municipality is in receipt of a ‘letter of intent’ to go on strike tomorrow (December 1).

Members affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) are expected to ‘down tools’.

The district municipality is urging residents to remain calm. According to General Manager for Corporate Services Mr OS Mnguni, contingency measures have been put in place by the Strike Management Committee.

Minimal service disruptions are anticipated as a result of the strike.

“The ‘no work, no pay’ rule will be strictly applied and we would like to make it clear that employees at essential services will not be allowed to strike. Disciplinary action will be taken against those who do,” said Mnguni.
