MEC rolls out road rehabilitation and drug awareness campaigns

‘’Part of the planned maintenance includes roads in the Nseka area under Inkosi Mdlalose in Ward 13. These are the D34, D322, Emabululwane access road and Emayini road.''

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Sipho Hlomuka led the roll-out of Operation Siyazenzela on Tuesday last week in AbaQulusi Local Municipality. The MEC also led a campaign at the Emadampini sports field in Ward 13 to fight the rampant use of drugs and other deadly substances in the Bhekuzulu area.

The aim of Operation Siyazenzela is to repair and maintain road infrastructure using government resources, without relying on independent contractors. This operation focuses on re-gravelling, blading and pothole- patching.

‘’Part of the planned maintenance includes roads in the Nseka area under Inkosi Mdlalose in Ward 13. These are the D34, D322, Emabululwane access road and Emayini road. These roads are to be maintained by the Operation Siyazenzela programme. In this ward, the targeted activities are betterment and re-gravelling, patch gravelling and blading.’’

Inkosi Mdlalose thanked the Department of Transport for creating job opportunities for various individuals, whether permanent or contract workers.

On the other hand, the drug awareness campaign formed part of the roll-out of the recently launched ‘November Safety Month’.
This is government’s response to the rising calls by concerned parents regarding the spike in the number of young people who have been drawn into the dark world of drugs and alcohol.
Drug and alcohol dependency has been proven to be one of the contributors to increased criminality in many corners of the province.
