Save a life and donate blood this December

SANBS has planned blood drives across Newcastle and surrounding areas, to help meet the demand for blood supplies this December.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is appealing to all donors to assist in replenishing low blood stocks.

SANBS has planned blood drives across Newcastle and surrounding areas, to help meet the demand for blood supplies this December.

They will be as follows:

  • Eyethu Junction – December 1, 8, 15 and 22
  • Amajuba Mall – December 4, 11, 16, 18 and 31
  • Boxer Superstore – December 7, 15, 20 and 29
  • Village walk Mall – December 6, 13, 20 and 27
  • Pick n Pay Pioneer Park – December 1, 11, 24 and 28
  • Theku Plaza – December 2, 10, 17 and 24
  • Scott Street Mall – December 5, 16, 19 and 31

You can donate blood if:

  • You are between the ages of 16 and 75 years old (for first-time donors)
  • You weigh a minimum of 50 kilograms (a minimum of 55kg for platelet donors)
  • You are in good health
  • You lead a low risk lifestyle
  • You consider your blood safe for transfusion
  • You have had a balanced meal within four hours of donating blood
  • You have not donated blood in the last 56 days (14 days for platelet donors)
  • Your pulse is between 50-100 regular beats per minute.
