Foundations visit school to motivate matrics

The reason for the visit, which was part of the ‘Last Push Campaign’, was to motivate and offer educational support to Grade 12 learners while they’re busy with their final examinations.

Last week Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Basic Education – Zululand District Deputy Director Mr Sibanyoni teamed up with the Amasobede Foundation and Zakhele Foundation to visit Landokwakhe Secondary School in Pongola.

The reason for the visit, which was part of the ‘Last Push Campaign’, was to motivate and offer educational support to Grade 12 learners while they’re busy with their final examinations.
First of all, the principal, educators and staff of Landokwakhe Secondary School were thanked for their warm welcome.

Mr Ayanda Kubheka, the founder and director of the Amasobode Foundation, emphasised the importance of school and its processes. He highlighted the crucial aspects of discipline, respect and being loyal to oneself. Kubheka further elaborated on why learners need to be educated, even if unemployment is on the rise and the future looks bleak. The reason, he said, is to become employers rather than employees and create employment in our rural areas. He also reminded the learners why they’re at school, as they have to uplift their well-being, as well as that of their families, communities and the country as a whole.

Zakhele Foundation founder and director Mr Zakhele Xulu spoke about ‘preparation for life after matric’. ‘’We, as parents and educators, hope that our matriculants get admitted to public institutions in South Africa.’’ He mentioned that SA has 26 universities (public institutions) which are ‘compatible’ with residence and funding, mostly NSFAS. He furthermore mentioned the dangers of private colleges, as some are not legitimately registered and there is no residence or funding. ‘’Nowadays, NSFAS funding offers free education, meaning it covers 100% of the study costs and on top of that, they purchase a laptop for the student.’’

Mr Kubheka and Mr Xulu started the question-and-answer session, where the learners were given a notepad and a pen as tokens of appreciation if they gave the correct answers.
The learners displayed sound knowledge and were responsive during the entire session.
The school principal thanked Mr Sibanyoni, Mr Kubheka and Mr Xulu for their availability to come and motivate the learners at this critical stage in their schooling.
