Morris Gajoo, NOFTA chairperson, said ‘having respect for the elderly is critical in any society’.

The important role the elderly play in society was highlighted at an elegant event hosted by NOFTA on Saturday.

The guest speaker was Asim Gani, an independent actuary and consultant from Cape Town, who emphasized the need to respect and learn from elders. He congratulated NOFTA on their efforts in hosting such a prestigious event.

Morris Gajoo, NOFTA chairperson, said ‘having respect for the elderly is critical in any society’.

“We should be mindful in taking care of the daily needs of those aged folk who are not in a position to do so themselves,” Mr Gajoo told guests.

Echoing those thoughts, SM Singh, NOFTA vice chairperson, commented that ‘it is pleasing to see that we have a caring society that appreciates our elders and those who are frail’.

“The younger generation must take note of their duties to care for those who cannot care for themselves.”

A moment of silence was observed for the loved ones who lost their lives after contracting the Covid -19 virus.

Gifts were sponsored for lucky draw prizes where eight names were drawn out of the hat and the winners gladly received their prizes.
