Community members and a security guard arrested a car guard who tried to steal a Toyota Corolla on Beaconsfield Street on Sunday afternoon
A passer-by by spotted the man in the driver’s seat, tampering with the steering wheel and trying to start the vehicle.
The witness notified the owner who was in a nearby shop. The shop’s security guard and several customers rushed out to corner the man in the car and took him to the police station.
He was identified as a car guard who operates in the central business district. The guard has been charged with attempted theft of motor vehicle. Police have appealed to the public not to leave valuable goods in their vehicles. The suspect is to appear in the Dundee Magistrates Court.
