Zakhele Foundation wins at SA Heroes Awards 2022

Zakhele Xulu, who is the founder and director of the Zakhele Foundation, said it is great to be a winner from Hlobane Skomplazi, Ward 7, at Abaqulusi Municipality.

The Zakhele Foundation won an award in the Rural Development category at the South African Heroes Awards 2022, which were held at the Johannesburg Theatre on Heritage Day (September 24).

Zakhele Xulu, who is the founder and director of the Zakhele Foundation, said it is great to be a winner from Hlobane Skomplazi, Ward 7, at Abaqulusi Municipality.
The foundation, which deals with community training and educational development, is registered with CIPC and DSD. Xulu works alongside Nompumelelo Xulu (alternative director) and Busisiwe Xulu (non-executive director) in making the foundation a success.

Xulu commented that, “We have assisted more than 100 learners with online applications to tertiary institutions. We would like to see every child being educated, irrespective of sexual orientation, race, socio-economic background, etc. The late Nelson Mandela once said that ‘education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world’. In fact, the only weapon we have is education.

“Again, we would like to thank all the people who voted for us, namely family members, educators, friends, Ikhambi ward, CMC and the Impolozi CMC manager, Zululand District, subject advisors, Kwanotshelwa High School, Vryheid Herald, University of Zululand and its learners, and Ngiyabonga Bafwethu. May God bless you abundantly.”

Xulu has up-skilled himself in Robotics and Coding, working alongside the Department of Basic Education and SASOL Robotics & Programming with MANCOSA. “The reason for this is to channel learners into robotics, since we have already embarked on the fourth industrial revolution,” enthuses Xulu.
