Numerous enthusiastic gym goers gathered at Hardbody’s Gym to learn from body building maestro, Martin Dewee.

A four-time SA Natural Heavy Weight Body Building Champion, he offered solid advice to aspiring body builders on the evening of October 8.
Martin conducts anti-drug campaigns nationwide condoning a more natural approach to having a fit and healthy body.

“Training is important but not as important as nutrition,” he stressed.

Born and bred in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Martin has been fortunate enough to dabble in the Hollywood lifestyle.

After travelling to more than 28 countries as an actor in 11 international movies, Martin was brought back home by what he calls the ‘marriage factor’.

“In Hollywood you never stay married,” he joked, explaining that he had to choose between marriage and movies. He has been happily married for 25 years now.
His first exposure to body building as a sport is what drove him to raise awareness against steroids in the industry.
“I was tiny compared to those guys,” he expressed. In 2004, he began his anti-drug campaigns where he visits gyms and schools nationally, including Dundee High School, almost eight years ago.
Martin pointed out five important factors to always keep in mind when training: water, carbohydrates, essential fats, protein and vitamins.
He encouraged people of all ages to join in the movement. “Age is just a number,” he urged,” you can still get into shape.”
To the ladies, he urged that they forget the scale and lift weights. “The scale means absolutely nothing,” he said,”If you want to measure, measure the centimeters.”
Martin also illustrated his version of ‘training with a twist’, which he speaks about extensively in his new book and training DVDs for men and ladies.

The DVDs are: Back to Basics With a Twist, Slowing Down Father Time, Body Sculpting for Ladies and  Future Sport Stars.
