Mayoral Cup in preparation for SALGA Games

Speaker T Zulu noted that the Mayoral Cup provided young people with an opportunity to showcase their abilities, as well as foster holistic growth by providing them with mental, social and physical challenges.

Newcastle Mayor Xolani Dube organised a Mayoral Cup event on September 24 and 25, which featured action from a variety of sports, including rugby, netball, cricket, volleyball, golf and soccer.

“The objective of these games is to entertain and provide opportunities for self-expression, while teaching values and discipline. They have the capacity to touch the lives of all pupils participating, regardless of gender, language or social status,” said the council speaker.

Speaking from the sidelines, Speaker T Zulu noted that the Mayoral Cup provides young people with an opportunity to showcase their abilities, as well as foster holistic growth by providing them with mental, social and physical challenges.

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Games will take place in Newcastle in December.
