10 suspects netted during weekend police operation

All drugs and stolen items that were recovered, were estimated at a street value of just under R19,000.

During a recent Intelligence-driven operation in the Osizweni area, officers from the Osizweni Crime Prevention Unit, reservists and the Amajuba Cluster Task Team arrested 10 suspects on various charges.

According to Newcastle SAPS corporate communications officer Lizzy Arumugam, police made their first arrest in Section-F after finding a 31-year-old suspect in possession of two whole and eight half mandrax tablets.

“Thereafter, a 27-year-old suspect was arrested at a house at Mdluli Stand in Blaauwbosch for being in possession of suspected stolen goods,” commented Arumugam.

Police recovered five ceiling boards, one deep freeze and a washing machine at the house.

Officers then headed to the Mndozo Stand area, where they arrested four suspects aged 20, 27, 28 and 33 for having five whole mandrax tablets and a plastic bag containing heroin.

That afternoon, a 31-year-old suspect was arrested with 15 parcels containing heroin.

A 59-year-old suspect was then apprehended for having two quarter, one half and 11 whole mandrax tablets in his possession.

“Following this, police proceeded to a house in Section-A, where they arrested a 46-year-old suspect for being in possession of 20 whole and two half mandrax tablets,” added Arumugam.

The officers ended their raid in Section-C, where they arrested their final suspect for being in possession of dangerous weapons. The 19-year-old teenager had a knife as well as a panga.

All drugs and stolen items were estimated at a value of just under R19,000.

“The 10 suspects have appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court, facing various criminal charges. All cases are currently still being investigated,” Arumugam concluded.
